Approximately 450 students are currently enrolled at American Heritage School. While we would like to seat everyone who wants to attend our School, a preference for manageable class sizes dictates that we must often create waiting lists for several grades.

Non-discrimination Notice: American Heritage School does not discriminate against any employee, student, employee applicant or student applicant because of race, creed, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, physical and/or mental disability.

How to Enroll

Copies of the Application for Enrollment are available at the School or online at the following link: [2008 Application.pdf]. Upcoming kindergarten students who will turn five years of age on or before September 1st are eligible for enrollment.

The basic process for admission to American Heritage School is as follows:
  1. New applicants, please call the School. Waiting lists for various grades fluctuate from year-to-year and the admission criteria are fairly rigorous. Thus, the School strongly advises that new applicants call the School before completing the application so that administration may advise the applicant of any considerations that may be particularly relevant to the applicant.
  2. Complete and submit the Application for Enrollment, including the non-refundable application fee and all attachments. All current patrons and waiting list applicants must reapply on an annual basis.
  3. Administration will review applications and call new applicant families to arrange an interview. Returning patrons do not require an interview unless their child is entering the 6th grade (mandatory 6th Grade Entrance Interview for all students/families entering the 6th grade).
  4. Once an interview is completed, administration will notify the applicant if and when a decision has been made to admit the applicant for an open seat.

Current patrons should turn in completed enrollment application forms for all returning students on or before January 31. Open enrollment for new-applicant families begins the third Monday in February.

NOTE: Current patrons who choose to wait to apply after open enrollment begins will be given the same acceptance priority as new patrons.

Confirmation letters regarding the enrollment status of students will be mailed in May.

Priority Acceptace Policy; Admission Criteria    [Return to top]

Current patrons who have fulfilled their service hour commitment are given first priority. Families with children already in the School, who would like to enroll other children in the School, are given next priority. New patrons are accepted based on the following criteria (in no particular order):

  • Space availability in classroom (see policy regarding Waiting Lists below)
  • Strength of interview with administration
  • Completed Application for Enrollment
  • Academic standing (see policy regarding Academic Standing below)

Non-discrimination Notice: American Heritage School does not discriminate against any employee, student, employee applicant or student applicant because of race, creed, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, physical and/or mental disability.

Waiting Lists   [Return to top]

American Heritage School accepts a certain number of students per class. When a class has been fully seated, a waiting list is created. Waiting lists are NOT first-come-first-serve; rather, when a seat opens in a class, administration will choose what it believes to be the applicant (parents and child viewed together) that best fulfills the admission criteria and best personifies the mission statement of American Heritage School. All waiting lists expire at the end of each academic year and are re-established in connection with the annual application process.

To qualify to be on the waiting list, all the requirements to enter the School must be met, including an interview with an administrator. If a seat becomes available, the waiting list is reviewed and a candidate is selected.

Academic Standing   [Return to top]

Prior to admission, the School reviews the academic standing of a student to avoid putting a child in a grade level for which the child is unprepared. American Heritage School does not have the resources to offer specialized academic assistance for those students who are significantly below grade level. Consequently, students who require substantial or specialized in-class help will generally not qualify for acceptance to the School. In limited circumstances, factors such as private tutoring and significant parental involvement, when taken together with other admission criteria, may result in acceptance of a student who has special needs or who is performing significantly below grade level. If a student has tested below grade level in some areas, but exhibits average or above-average performance in other areas, the student may still qualify for acceptance.

Standards    [Return to top]
All students will be expected to conduct themselves in all aspects of life as Christians. They will:

  1. Use good manners and polite speech. Repeated use of bad language will result in dismissal.
  2. Treat all students with respect. Belittling or making fun of another student is not allowed.
  3. Be honest and truthful in all dealings.
  4. Accept corrections respectfully.
  5. Display a good and positive attitude.
  6. 5th - 8th grades must maintain a minimum of 2.0 academic grade point average.

All students must adhere to the teachings set forth in “My Gospel Standards” published by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Non-discrimination Notice: American Heritage School does not discriminate against any employee, student, employee applicant or student applicant because of race, creed, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, physical and/or mental disability.

Interview  [Return to top]

  • All families new to the School, as well as current patrons with children entering the 6th Grade, are required to have a family interview with Administration. This is done as a family. Those required to attend are both parents (or legal guardians) and those children desiring to attend American Heritage School.
  • Families who currently have children at the School but are enrolling a new student will need to have the new student interviewed (excluding incoming kindergarten children of current patrons). In addition, all students entering the 6th Grade are required to participate in a 6th Grade Entrance Interview with Administration. At least one parent is required to accompany their child at these types of current-family interviews.
  • After you turn in your completed application, you will be contacted regarding the interview.

Academic Evaluation [Return to top]

  • Standardized Test Scores Required. All new applicants will either need to attach to their Application for Enrollment a copy of the student's most recent SAT or equivalent standardized test scores (Kindergarten applicants excepted). In the absence of standardized test scores, student applicants will need to be evaluated by American Heritage School for appropriate grade level and class placement.
  • Full Academic Evaluation Required If No Standardized Test Scores are Available. All applicants without standardized test scores must be evaluated at the School on the first Saturday of May from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., or by special appointment if necessary. The evaluation fee is $45 per student and includes a full battery of subject matter evaluation in math, reading, spelling, and writing and also includes a written summary of results.
  • Kindergarten Readiness Assessment Required. All Kindergarten applicants must be evaluated for basic Kindergarten readiness. Kindergarten Readiness Assessments will be conducted at the School on the first Saturday of May from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., or by special appointment if necessary. The evaluation fee for Kindergarten Readiness Assessments is $20 per student.
  • Math Placement Assessments Required. All new applicants to the School entering grades four and higher are required to have a Math Placement Assessment intended to determine math performance level and appropriate math placement at the School. Math Placement Assessments will occur the week prior to the first day of School (in August). All students should have mastered basic math facts prior to entering the fifth and subsequent grades (including multiplication tables through 12x12 and basic addition, subtraction and division facts). The evaluation fee for Math Placement Assessments is $20 per student.

Non-discrimination Notice: American Heritage School does not discriminate against any employee, student, employee applicant or student applicant because of race, creed, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, physical and/or mental disability.
