The Lyceum Orchestra Program consists of four audition-only ensembles starting with students as young as five going through to the most advanced high-school-aged musicians. Students perform masterworks of the repertory alongside sacred music. Named "Best Youth Performing Ensemble" by Best of State Utah in 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012, the Lyceum Philharmonic is one of the nation's premier youth orchestras and has performed with guest artists including David Archuleta, Steven Sharp Nelson (of The Piano Guys), Alex Boye', Peter Breinholt, Paul Cardall, Michael Ballam, Jenny Oaks Baker, and The 5 Browns.
Talented young musicians come from across the state to be immersed in this family friendly environment of musical excellence. Whether your musician is a young beginner or one of the top high school musicians in the state, one of our four orchestras will open their eyes to the possibilities that only come when surrounded by other musicians who share the highest musical standards. This season, the Philharmonic will be performing their No. 1 single, Beethoven's 5 Secrets on a nationally televised PBS special with The Piano Guys. They will also be touring with a new commission celebrating the Sesquicentennial of the Civil War. This exciting new work, written by Rob Moffat and Rob Gardner, will include professional soloists and archive photographs of the Civil War and will be performed across Utah, Nevada, and Arizona by Philharmonic students during a Spring Break tour. Other season highlights include performances with Deseret Book artist, "Cactus Jack" an invitation to perform at the televised Best of State Awards Gala, and two nights headlining in Abravanel Hall as part of the annual Days of '47 Pops Concert! The Philharmonic will conclude the season with a performance of Dvorak's Symphony No. 9, New World Symphony.
